Travel Destinations in Mexico away from tourists?

travel destinations
annalabanana asked:

We are looking for a vacation in Mexico, preferably on the Caribbean or Gulf coast that aren’t over-run by tourists. We speak Spanish and have spent lots of time in Mexico before, (Oaxaca and Baja Norte and Sur) so we are familiar with the country. Any ideas?

It’s kinda difficult to find coastal areas that aren’t too touristy, since that’s how they survive, but I suggest Guaymas, San Blas, Xalapa, Vera Cruz, or Michoacan…

    Enjoy your vacation! =D

I don’t think anything on the Gulf Coast is particularly touristy if you are looking to go between September and June. (avoiding the two weeks leading up to Easter). Most Gulf Coast towns are only busy with tourists in the summer and at Easter when Mexican families head to the beach.

For gulf coast in the Yucatan state, you can check out Sisal, Celestun, Progreso, Chelem, Chuburna, Chicxulub Puerto, Uaymitun. In Campeche State, Campeche (the city) is really cool but the beach is much but it’s still a really cool place. There’s a couple of websites for you below.
