What are the best travel destinations in August?

Planning a trip to celebrate my 40th birthday this August and would like to avoid crowds and typical tourist spots. Nepal was a front runner, but apparently August is Monsoon season there. So, where are good places to go - preferably off the beaten track - in August?

   The pacific northwest is montana.
   The pacific northwest is beautiful in august so is montana.

   How about travel to Malaysia. This year is A Visit Malaysia Year. Malaysia has so many to offer.
